The primary focus of Kiwanis is kids. However the club
supports the following organizations in our community
each year:
- CASA - Child Advocate Services
- Northern Neck Free Health Clinc
- Building access ramps in conjunction with Inter Faith
- YMCA
- Story Mobile & Lancaster Community Library
- Music education in the schools (bands)
- Inter Faith Service Council
- Walk America
- March of Dimes
- Children's Miracle Network
- Habitat for Humanity
- The Haven
- Dictionaries for Middle school children (all in Lancaster and
Northumberland Counties)
- Sponsors 4 scholarships for graduating seniors in Lancaster and
Northumberland Counties
- and much, much more
The club sponsors the following youth clubs:
- The Lancaster High School Key Club
- Builders CLub at Lancaster Middle School
- Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts Sea Ship program (ages 16-24)
Major emphasis program, in keeping with Kiwanis International's
focus on "Young Children Priority One" we have contributed to:
- Purchase of equipment at Rappahannock General Hospital
- Books for the Storymobile
- Reading and tutoring programs at Lancaster Primary School
- Support of the MCV Children's Hospital
The club has an active AKTION club for mentally handicapped
adults. It is a separate chapter.
The clubs two primary fund raising events are:
- A boat auction at Yankee Point Sailboat Marina in May
- The Urbanna Oyster Festival in November
