Community Leadership Seminar for Teens
This exciting HOBY-certified event is a partnership between the following
cooperating organizations:
- Lancaster County Public Schools
- The Northern Neck Kiwanis Club
- The Lancaster High School Key Club
- The Rotary Club
- The Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce
- The White Stone Business Association
The seminar booklets are widely available in over 4,000 business sites.
The event takes place in mid-January (this year 01/13/2001) at Lancaster
High School. It is open to all high school students areawide (including
home schooled and private schooled.
There are 12 scholarship opportunities arising from this high-impact event.
Student speakers can submit five-minute transcripts on leadership for pre-seminar
awards. At the seminar, the top three student speakers will be selected for even
greater awards.
This year's event will include Myers-Briggs exposure.
Student skit groups illustrate the speaker points in an amusing and entertaining
way. Top groups will win awards.
43 area businesses supported the event last year. There were eight favorable
press releases. Participants are certified for attending a HOBY event, which
opens up scholarship awards at many colleges and universities world-wide.
Any group wishing to join the partnership, contact us and we'll send a student
group to speak to your group.
The program enabled the partnership to send students to global programs of
educational enrichment, where students receive international exposure not
available in the local school setting.
ANNOUNCEMENT: The partnership is currently taking applications for global
program for the January 2001 term. Students can earn college credits from UVA
by writing a paper on the cross-fire sessions.
