Dear Mr. Alga:

Thank you so much for your letters regarding the Key Club's work with character building. I apologize for not getting back with you sooner; however, we're delighted that you have initiated efforts through the Key Club to move your project idea forward. This is exactly the type of activity that we had envisioned organizations sponsoring to correlate with our character education program.

Mr. Leap and I have talked about this program. He wants to support you in your efforts. Please talk with him regarding any incentives you have in mind. I have also shared your correspondence with the Superintendent and will share it with the School Board at its next scheduled meeting on October 21, 1999.

Your support of these efforts is truly appreciated, as is the work you continue to do with our high school students. We thank you.

Sincerely,

Valorie W. Hostinsky
Director of Instruction and Personnel

As president of the Kilmarnock Chamber of Commerce, I would like to add my support of the upcoming Leadership Seminar to be held at Lancaster High School on Saturday, January 15, 2000.

Our board is very excited about the offering and the program. It dovetails well with our future desired plans for supporting our local area students. We hope to have fund raisers for scholarships in our programming starting this winter. Also, we are investigating a signature program, such as Presidential Classroom, to be co-sponsored with other interested organizations. We are happy that we will be able to track student participation through your web page and will assign cumulative points to participants as one of the ways to base our decisions on future scholarship awards and in making selections for other special academic sponsorships that the board and membership may offer in the future.

We appreciate having a good bit of the philosophy and flavor of the underlying base for the seminar in advance on your web page. Clearly, it is a powerful offering to the education of our young people, and I would hope that parents would encourage their child to sign up, not for the scholarship points or the monetary prizes to be awarded during the seminar, but because these types of skills are needed for their future career and vocational success. This is, to my knowledge, not offered in any venue in the public educational system. It is truly a good partnership, and I can see why the schools are excited about this new program in its pilot year. I wish you every success in the program and commend you for your initiative. This is one of the most innovative Key Clubs we have seen in the history of the organization, since its establishment at Lancaster High School.

Wishing you every success,

President, Kilmarncock Chamber of Commerce

Dear Colin:

As President of the Northern Neck Kiwanis Club, I wish to convey our wholehearted endorsement for the upcoming Youth Leadership Seminar scheduled for January 15, 2000. Kiwasnis International has always encouraged the cultivation of good character. Indeed, one finds among its goals:

To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material values of life.

To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.

Additionally, our local Club gives highest priority to programs and projects which support youth. The Leadership Seminar promises to be a quality event that will help a number of yount people broaden their concepts and practice of leadership. You have our unreserved and enthusiastic support.
